FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
TRANSPORTATION
CODE OF ETHICS AND CONDUCT

STUDENTS’ CODE OF CONDUCT

The Faculty of Medical seeks to implement a NEW/RESSURECTED initiative regarding the transporting of students from all areas of the Faculty, including and not limited to the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery, Physical Therapy, Radiography and Nursing students.

·         All students upon entering the bus must present a UWI Identification card.

·         All students have a right to the use of the Faculty bus.

·         All students are expected to ensure the proper care of the Faculty buses.

·         All students must report any incident to the Undergraduate Section of the Dean’s Office.  This includes but not limited to concerns, complaints, suggestions etc.

·         The buses must only be used for the purpose of educational excursions from the Dean’s Office to the clerkship sites and return.  The Faculty is not able to accommodate the transporting of students who are not assigned to a clerkship site.   The use the buses for personal reasons is strictly prohibited, so as not to inconvenience any student that is rightfully assigned.

RURAL SITES

·         Transportation to rural clerkship sites will be provided on the Sunday before the start of each clerkship and will return for students on the Sunday after the end of each rural clerkship experience.  Students will be transported from the Dean’s Office parking lot to the rural site and will be returned to the said location at the end of the clerkship period.

·         No transportation is provided to or from students’ homes or halls of residence

·         The Faculty will not undertake to transport luggage which is unaccompanied by a student

·         The new/resurrected initiative guiding transportation to the rural sites, is that transportation will ONLY be accommodated upon the students’ request.  This means that only persons who have made arrangements for the bus to be transported to the off sites will be facilitated and/or accommodated.

·         There is a book provided in the Undergraduate Section of the Dean’s Office where students are being asked to indicate their transportation needs.  This information will be communicated to the Drivers and only those who have indicated an interest to travel on the bus will be allowed to do so.  The deadline to indicate one’s interest will be the Wednesday before the expected departure date.

·         The driver’s will ONLY be responsible for those individuals who have booked the bus beforehand and whose names appear on the list provided by the Undergraduate Office.

·        The bus departs from the Dean’s Office parking lot at 8:00a.m. sharp.  This means that persons are expected to arrive by 7:00a.m. to allow the drivers to check each student and to pack the luggage onto the bus.  Late arrivals will NOT be accepted nor accommodated.

N.B:  Please be advised that this information has been communicated to the Heads of Departments and the Driver’s will comply with the stipulations that govern these changes to be implemented.
