JADSA

Good Evening 2k15!!!! As you all know, in August 2010 the University of the West Indies Mona Campus introduced the Doctor of Dental Surgery Programme in the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Since accepting the first cohort of students (Class of 2015) the University has accepted a second cohort (Class of 2016). As a small group we have been lobbying for the acceptance and recognition of our programme by all means possible. We then decided that it was imperative that we launch a formal group that seeks to give us a 'voice' not only on campus but off, as well as one where we could focus on targeting primary oral health care in Jamaica. As a result the two cohorts of the Doctor of Dental Surgery Programme will be launching the JAMAICA DENTAL STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION (JADSA) in MMLT at 1:30 pm on March 29, 2012 under the patronage of Professor Archibald McDonald M.B.,B.S., FRCSEd., FACS, DM (Surgery).

This message is just to inform the class of this momentous occasion for the Dental Students. With all the hustle and bustle that we've had to deal with planning this auspicious event we did not formally make the class aware of it. As much as we would love to have you all there the event is in MMLT and we do have a number of invited guests including the Minister of Health who is a Dental Surgeon by profession, Minister of Education, specially invited dentists and many other important officials. As such, we extended an invitation to the executive body and so without a doubt the medical class will be represented.

We do hope that you all will be behind us as we launch this association. For the dental students this is history in the making as we are the first two groups of locally trained dentists who will graduate from the University. Many thanks go out to all those who have helped us whether through a kind, optimistic word or otherwise. Though we've had a lot to overcome as a group the day has come where we are able to make a name for ourselves and branch out on our own.

Blessings!

Sincerely,
Jhenelle E. Black
Secretary General
Jamaica Dental Students' Association ( JADSA)
